While Coach bags are designed to last a lifetime, adapting and evolving to match your everchanging personal style, they naturally need a little care from time to time to keep them looking their best. So, once you decide to invest in a luxury bag, you’ll want to make sure you understand how to properly maintain its appearance and overall quality as time passes by.

Below are the answers to all your bag care-related questions, including how to store bags when not in use and how to keep them looking their best for years and years to come.

How can I store my luxury bag to maintain its shape and quality over time?

When not in use, you’ll want to store your bag with care by following the steps below.

1. To maintain its shape, stuff it with tissue paper and avoid hanging it by the straps as gravity can stretch out the material over time.

2. Store it in a breathable cloth bag, like its original dust bag or even a pillowcase. Avoid using plastic, which can trap moisture and prevent air circulation.

3. Place your stored bag in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Note: These instructions apply to the following Coach leathers: Crossgrain, Glovetanned, Metallic Pebble, Natural Calf, Pebble, Polished Pebble, Refined Pebble, Signature Calf, Smooth Calf, Soft Calf, Stamped/Glazed Crocodile and Stamped Snakeskin.

How can I clean specialty leather bags?

Coach specialty leathers require—you guessed it—special care. Read on for specific steps by material.

Suede: Extra soft and luxurious, Coach suede is durable but should not be exposed to water. To clean your suede handbag, gently brush the surface with a suede brush to lift dirt and restore texture. For stubborn spots, use a suede eraser and avoid water to prevent staining—always store it in a dust bag when not in use.

Shearling: To care for shearling, remove any surface dirt by gently wiping with a dry cloth. Store in a cool, dry place when not in use.

Haircalf: Using the hair side of the hide, this artisan-favorite material is delicate and might shed. Please have it cleaned professionally, handle it with care and keep it away from moisture.

How can I care for fabric bags?

Lightweight and low maintenance, fabric bags are perfect for everyday style (and easy to take care of).

Canvas & Jacquard: Bags and accessories crafted in canvas or fabric (including jacquard) can be cleaned with a damp or dry soft cloth.

Straw: Straw is an all-natural material that should be handled with care. Clean Coach straw carefully with a damp or dry soft cloth to preserve its texture and durability.

Denim: Clean denim bags with a damp or dry soft cloth to restore the fabric. Note that colors may transfer to other items, and the hue of colored denim may fade with continuous wear or exposure to strong sunlight.
