What’s the origin story of Rexy?
Rexy was brought to life by Creative Director Stuart Vevers who joined Coach in 2013. Vevers ushered in a new era of Coach for a younger generation, making way for fresh ideas, designs and possibilities. While Rexy has “nothing to do with our heritage,” Vevers has stated that he liked the dinosaur because it’s “random.” So, while not having any explicit ties to Coach’s origins or history, Rexy is undoubtedly reflective of the brand today. Her playful and creative energy is meant to inspire courage and self-expression—values that are core to Coach’s purpose and vision. Wherever she is and wherever she goes, Rexy is an icon of Coach’s new legacy and a reminder to be unapologetically yourself.
How old is Rexy?
Making her big debut in Stuart Vevers’ first ready-to-wear collection, Rexy was introduced in 2015. Now 11 years old, Rexy has been a staple of Coach since she debuted and isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. For her milestone 10th birthday, a special capsule collection was created in her honor. It includes T-shirts, slides, sneakers and even a collectible crafted in luxe shearling—all inspired by (and featuring) the original motif.

If you’ve ever visited Coach House, our flagship store in New York City, you likely got a good look at the 12-foot dinosaur sculpture that greets every customer.
Designed by renowned artist Billie Achilleos, this fierce depiction of Rexy is made from 400 upcycled Coach leather bags. Featuring hand-stitched components and taking three months to complete, the sculpture is a spectacle to behold (and definitely worth a visit).
